Love the bottom half of the cover. I think the title doesn't stand out enough on the top for the cover to feel even. Perhaps you might want to play with the title treatment some to see if you can balance it out. I wouldn't go literal with tatooed imbreds....this style is more thought provoking than the literal style would be.
I love it! Perhaps you need a contrasting colour in title - how about half way down each letter it turns to brilliant red - keep the font thin so that it's not over-powering but that little idea of blood is there.....
John Hornor Jacobs is a novelist, among other things. His novel, SOUTHERN GODS, will be published in August 2011 by Night Shade Books. THIS DARK EARTH will be published in July 2012 by Gallery/Simon & Schuster. Represented by THE Stacia Decker of the Donald Maass Literary Agency.

ReplyDeleteI'd go for the tattooed inbred with the trailer and gun, but that's just me :)
ReplyDeleteMy first thought is that it reminded me of the cover of COLD MOUNTAIN. Looking at that cover, maybe not so much. But it was still my first thought.

Still cool, though.

ReplyDeleteInbred. Tattoo. Trailer. Gun. Also, a white trash babe in Daisy Dukes!
ReplyDeleteThe title needs to pop (brighter), but otherwise this is rock solid.

ReplyDeleteI dig it as is. The title hints at what noir is, dark, thin and before you know the doom has suffocated what life you had.
